What this checks
To send a qualified lead or a closed deal back to Google Ads, each lead needs the Google click ID (GCLID) from the ad that brought it in, or matching contact details Google can use instead. The click ID is easy to lose: a form that drops a hidden field, a field that does not carry over when a lead becomes a deal, or a banner that blocks the script. This tool counts how many of your leads still have one, and shows whether that is getting better or worse over time. For the full set-up, read Google Ads offline conversions from your CRM.
How to get the export
- HubSpot: export contacts with their create date, their original source, and the Google ad click id contact property.
- Salesforce: report on Leads or Contacts with Created Date, Lead Source and your custom click ID field.
- Zoho CRM and GoHighLevel: export leads or contacts with created time, source, and the custom field where you store the click ID.
Include only the columns you need. You can remove names and email addresses before pasting; the checker does not need them.
How to read the result
- Well-formed means at least 15 letters, digits, hyphens or underscores. That is a basic shape check; it cannot tell whether Google issued the value.
- Looks malformed usually means a truncated, edited or copied-with-spaces value.
- Missing includes leads that never had a click, such as phone calls, direct visits and referrals, as well as clicks where capture failed. Use the source filter to keep the count to leads that should have one.
- A drop between months often lines up with a change: a new form, a redesigned landing page, a new tag set-up or a consent banner change.
If coverage is low
- Make sure auto-tagging is on in Google Ads.
- Capture the click ID with a script that runs on every landing page, not only the page that holds the form, and save it for the visit.
- Put a hidden field in every form, including multi-step and embedded forms, and test each one with a real submission.
- Check the click ID survives each hop: contact to deal, or lead to contact in Salesforce and Zoho.
- Check what your consent banner blocks, and whether enhanced conversions for leads is available as a fallback. See HubSpot and Google Ads offline conversions for one worked set-up.
Questions people ask
What is a GCLID?
The Google click ID. Auto-tagging adds it to the landing page address when someone clicks a Google ad, and it identifies that click when you send a conversion back.
What counts as good coverage?
There is no universal figure. Compare the result with the share of your leads that genuinely came from Google ad clicks. Phone calls, emails and direct visits never carry a click ID, so 100% is not the goal, but a drop from one month to the next usually means something changed.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The check runs in your browser and nothing is sent to drop-b or anyone else.
Can leads without a click ID still be sent back to Google Ads?
Sometimes. Google can match on hashed email or phone through enhanced conversions for leads, if you hold consent and pass the details. A captured click ID is the more reliable match.
